This is a repost of a November, 2022, article - one of my earliest Substacks - regarding a particularly disgusting piece of drivel published by the ever-gaslighting site, The Atlantic; as I had far far fewer subscribers back then, and as we continue to get dire warnings of another COVID death-march coming (how many have there been now?)… I figured a fresh reminder was in order.
It also serves to prove one other thing: my disdain for The Atlantic is not a new vibe…

Amnesty
In one of the most blatant examples of unbridled hubris I have witnessed in - well, ever - Emily Oster in The Atlantic scribbled out her plea for ‘forgiveness.’ Titled, “Let’s Declare a Pandemic Amnesty” (unfortunately, the story has since been paywalled, because ‘The Atlantic’), the piece makes a case for letting go of animosities fostered by the responses to the COVID-19 ‘pandemic.’
She did NOT make a strong case.
In it Oster basically says, “Well gosh we had no way of knowing we were wrong and we were just blindly doing what we were told and we know our mistakes now so just let it go so we can be chill again… k?”
In even shorter vernacular? “Oopsie!”
Given the author’s background (as I always say, dig deeper), her missive is hardly surprising, but it is still a slap in the face to those who have suffered because of the vile overreaction of government, media (of which she was a part), business… and the self-righteous masses.
In case she does not realize how incredibly insulting and offensive her brain-spew is, let us review the various - and unbelievably grotesque - falsehoods that were forced upon us by self-righteous elites like herself, and the devastating results of not complying blindly to their demands.

Running The Gauntlet
We went from ‘two weeks to flatten the curve’ to cloth masks to social distancing to forced isolations; the truth is coming out about each of those, and NONE of them actually helped stop the spread of this bioweapon ‘virus’… and many of them created conditions far worse.
[Nursing homes, anyone?]
We experienced experimental gene therapies ‘vaccinations’ that were mandated both by government and private businesses; while the jury is still out on how incredibly harmful these will end up being long-term, we know with absolute confidence they did not - and DO not - protect people from getting COVID-19, nor from passing it along to others.
We were told otherwise, of course; we still are, despite the ‘science’ now saying otherwise.
We endured the closings of small-businesses and schools and churches… saw communities ruined from within and families torn asunder, terminal patients dying alone due to unreasonable quarantine demands, and lives destroyed by hatred fostered in the name of the ‘greater good’… and we’re just supposed to shrug and say, “Okay - do over!”
Nope… it doesn’t work that way.
And let us not forget the aforementioned masses; those tolerant and loving folks who - with oft-incoherent vitriol - wished death upon those of us who simply wanted to be left alone; celebrities and media personalities and neighbors and strangers on the Internet… giddy with the notion we might die horrible deaths because of our choices.
Amnesty? Again… no.

Unbridled Hubris
But even if we WANTED to find the will to simply ‘let it go,’ to take her appeal for ‘understanding’ as a sincere expression of remorse… we cannot do that, because a closer reading of the article reveals not only a dripping tone of condescending haughtiness, but a nearly macabre sense of superiority in her wrongness.
There are many examples of this throughout the article, but I want to focus on one sentence within, because it truly says it all:
In some instances, the right people were right for the wrong reasons.
Wrong reasons? What the blazes does that even mean?
No one - and I mean NO ONE - who is genuinely contrite makes such an insufferably arrogant statement; it is similar to a spoiled child apologizing for doing something wrong right before they are about to be disciplined - they are only saying ‘sorry’ to avoid consequences, believing they will get away with it.
That is what is happening here, and I cannot just ‘let it go’ and move on; thousands of people harmed tens of millions of people with their tyrannical demands and hateful behaviors, and those responsible for said-harm must be held to account.
And if you need one more reason for such a rigid attitude, consider this: I know with certainty if it had been US who had been wrong - if WE had been on the wrong side of history with this - there would have been no quarter given, no mercy granted… at all.
Why should we respond any differently?

They obviously learned nothing from this experience and don't even see that they should have. Did we learn anything? I sure hope so. Requiring real accountability just might show we did.
