First off, I want to offer sincere thanks to the ever-generous Demi Pietchell at the
. She chose to show some love to The Stone Age with this great article (seriously, read it - you will enjoy it), and because she did I have been blessed with more-than-a-few fresh views over the last week or so. As such, while I am thanking Demi here let me also offer a warm welcome to all new subscribers and readers, and give you a quick tour.Yes, I do cover news items - and do so from what some consider a unique, oft-speculative perspective - but I will also post spiritual and and philosophical musings, examinations of real-world conundrums (with solutions recommended), plus other random goodies.
I will also drop the occasional verse from my poetic days, when the mood strikes me; what you see below is one of those lyrical works. I do not normally offer a poem so soon after the last one posted - it’s only been a week, and I usually prefer to wait at least of month between poetry-drops - but… well, I feel compelled; chalk it up to my slightly-impulsive nature.
Okay - tour over, let’s get to the work…
Slave
The Powers push the buttons, and
we say that we’re all free,
products of a system that lets us
be-all-we-can-be,
we think that dear Miss Liberty walks
with us through our days,
though the evidence rings like a bell...
we’re nothing but their slaves.
We rely upon our government to
save when crisis nears,
to cover when disaster strikes -
we surrender to our fears,
rely upon police and law to
protect from danger’s end,
despite that second bill-o-right...
demands we self-defend.
We rely upon the public schools to
raise and teach our kids,
we do not have the time ourselves -
the lives we’re conned to live,
rely upon the grocery stores to
fill our cups and plates,
and sell us all the poisoned crap...
we shove into our face.
We wake with public utilities,
on which we all rely,
our comfort, sanitation -
we’re sure they will provide,
rely on global bankers to
define our sense of worth,
while integrity, gets forced aside...
to death from date of birth.
We rely upon technology to
stave off boredom’s grip,
and trust the Docs to keep us well
with greed and IV drip,
and don’t forget the pharma-rot they
peddle and prescribe,
numbs us and, assures them that...
we won’t step out of line.
We rely on those philosophers, the
gurus, and the shrinks,
to tell us how to think and feel -
self-value slowly sinks,
and if all that were not enough, we
have to clear the shelves,
and rely on chosen deities...
to save us from ourselves.
You may have noted the frequency,
with which I used ‘rely,’
we dare not seek an answer, for
there’s too much in the ‘why,’
I’ll remind you that if we continue, to
pander to this cult,
'rely' is not the path to ‘slave’...
it is the end result.

I love it, I've been caught in every trap and lie you point to! So well articulated, it's so simple yet so complex. Since I was a teen, I suppose, when I finally said NO MORE Church...I asked this ONE ENORMOUS QUESTION:
"Why would a GOD make a world where everything has to KILL and EAT everything else to stay alive?"
It's the nature of the BEAST. The Beast changed what was likely a Harmonious, and balanced world into a world of constant strife, fear, and imbalance, or duality, A dueling Nature, a fight to survive, rather than a JOY TO LIVE.
For me the challenge, is To Maintain that JOY TO LIVE.
it means recognizing all the 'programs" in place to keep you from your JOY.
good one!
