Yep, I had wondered about it on my own initially, then did some research... and learned the theory had been around for decades! LOL Nothing new under the sun, eh? :-)

And you're right - it DOES make sense. The alternative, that Jefferson wrote it... does not at all.

After reading several pieces from Jefferson and from Payne I personally think you're onto something, I thought at times it was because of so much editorializing by the other founders . it wouldn't change what history we have but it could make one look at history differently.

PSSST! Skilled writers are able to write in more than one genre or style. A manifesto like the Declaration of Independence requires a different style than a letter (even if the letter is an erudite one).

Anyway, I have read that the Declaration is a product of more than one author: Jefferson was just the main author.
