“The only question you have to ask yourself is, “Does it work for me?” If it does, that is all which should matter; the rest is just hot air.”
Just like yoga or exercise or writing—there are always people who profit from the how-to. Good for them—not for me. Simple stillness has worked for me for years. Mediation can be a simple or as complex as we make it.
Thanks for diving into the topic and sharing your path. 🙏
You are right, Stone. Only the reader can say whether or not it will work.
I can truthfully say that it works very well for me. The simplest technique can be done everywhere. It’s an escape from harsh reality and strengthens you at the same time. Returning to a sense of calm means I’m able to weather the storm.
And, the most surprising, it helps control my RA beyond anything my consultant ever suggested.
It's amazing, isn't it, how when we return to 'basics' we discover... serenity :-) I find your mentioning of how it helps with RA most interesting as well, as I too have experiences with meditation helping with physical ailments :-)
Thanks so much for sharing this - and for your support <3
I've had a beautiful ride with meditation, qi gong, and mantra over the years, ebbing between them, now it's easier to "drop in" and I love walking or cleaning house as a meditative act too...........which reminds me, it's time for a little bedtime medtiation then off to dreamland!
Excellent point, Angela! I find the simple act of washing dishes (by hand, I don't mess with dishwashing machines) to be one of the most meditative things I do. :-) Driving can also be a meditative exercise, although not the best time to into a deep, eyes-closed moment LOL
Appreciate the comment, and hope you are catching high-quality zzzz's...
I wash my dishes too, but not because I want to..but because I live in an old farmhouse with an apartment size dishwasher that doesn't even really work, it's hobbit size....which I probably fall into that category to, so old school for the win. Ha! Long drives are good to clear the mind too, I agree.
Really enjoyed this. I have through my work, for over 30 years, attempted to teach people how to connect with their breath and so their body. There is so much wisdom (and power) in the body and it brings you smack bang into the present. Love the title of the book and look forward to more.

Mouthful of truth, brother.

OUTSTANDING.
I studied for many years in this tradition: https://kwanumzen.org/

There's a substacker called Lauren Geertson who does loads of meditation stuff I believe.
I do meditation instead of melatonin for sleep.
I do a mantra while breathing
Relax the neck, then
Relax The shoulders, then
Relax the spine
Etc to thighs, legs. feet.
When I get to feet I am usually starting to dream.
