If you have read any of the previous drops of ‘Pages’ from my forthcoming book, you may have noticed my use of the word ‘Koa.’ This word, one which I stumbled upon during the creative process, has usually been followed by the explanatory ‘(soul),’ with the intention of giving context what I mean by it.
So… you may be asking why I didn’t just use the word “soul,’ instead of deploying a new, ‘made up’ word? There is a reason.
Across histories and cultures and disciplines the word ‘soul’ - as we utilize it here in the west - has a multitude of meanings. Of course, the basic concept is the same across those paradigms, but the subtle differences are still substantial enough that to simply apply it as a catch-all does not capture any specific meaning.
Rather than muddy those already murky-waters with another take on the same word, it is much easier to just apply a new word, and define it myself; the ‘Page’ below provides that definition. As with previous ‘Pages,’ this encapsulates ideas by which I strive to live, and are thus part of my personal canon.

PAGE OF KOA
From the vast infinity of The All, where the boundaries between toil and leisure blur into grayness, where sensation is inert and form is naught, a wisp of energy coalesces from the firmament of Memory. By the touch of (Providence) it becomes Koa, and it is good.
Seeking emprise it melds with a vacant tangible vessel, forming deep within another. And the vessel stirs on its own for the first time; life is achieved, Oneness has begun.
Be it again or anew this entity celebrates, craving physicality for the sake of growth and connection, respite and sensation. That Koa - the energy coursing through the vessel, animating it - is you.
This is your time to be a unique individual, to exist within and create without your own singular identity. As such you have access to the countless blessings therein, to experience all the richness of physicality while engaging your will entirely as your own, so being Natural Law is ever honored. Your time. You. Trust yourself.
We are granted free association, and the right to create the relationships we desire. We are offered the satisfaction of achievement, and the elation of the effort therein, be the intention productive or domestic, creative or recreational. We are driven by nature to seek and acquire both knowledge and wisdom, on levels practical and esoteric.
This is LIFE, so enjoy it… as it is but temporary for us all. Be it in a century or a score, a decade or a year, a week or day, an hour or the next minute, death is going to arrive at your door; no Koa remains on this plane forever, and you are no different. The body dies, the scales are balanced… the Koa endures, into Memory and beyond.
Therefore fear not the demise of your physical form, for as a traveler of energy you are on but one step of a greater journey. As Koa is energy, being that energy can be transformed but never created nor destroyed, you are eternal. Your form will change once you are loosed of matter, which is natural, but your true essence never ceases.
However, you are not ‘loosed’ yet - indeed, you are very much here… alive! Since that is the case BE alive; live in this moment, right now, embracing the joy of being you.
You are unique. You are vital. You are One.
After-Thoughts
A curious thing about the word, ‘Koa,’ that you may find interesting. As regular readers know, I have no compunction about creating new words if existing terms do not entirely capture a concept I wish to convey; those words are almost always created, however, which means I applied creative processes to come up with them.
That was not the case with ‘Koa.’ Years ago (bear in mind, solidifying my beliefs in this realm has been a three-decades long process), and while in the early stages of fleshing out my thoughts on ‘the soul,’ the word ‘Koa’ just came to me. There was no rhyme or reason to it, no thought or creativity applied - it just hit me, and I just… knew.
Nevertheless, I did my due diligence and ran it through a definition search, to make sure I was not applying a word that meant something else. Through this I determined that - aside from the fact it is a tree in Hawaii - it was not being used anywhere else, under any other context. Hence, it has stuck.
Hopefully this explains the meaning of ‘Koa.’ As for future releases of ‘Pages’ from my book project. I intend to drop more of those over the weeks ahead, and plan to release the entire collection sometime this year.
In my next article we shall return to regularly-scheduled shenanigans, so make sure to stay tuned.
