I continue to repair and keep roadworthy, my 2001 Maxima SE with standard drive. The only occasions since 1981, on which I have driven an automatic, have been when my standard drive vehicle was in for repairs. And after all the computers, ABS, airbags and "Safety" devices, it has been the manual drive that has kept me safe in a number of stickly situations (both weather and other drivers). I prefer to drive my car, not to be driven by it.
That is such a smart move, Gwyneth! Every experienced 'prepper' - whether they be preparing for doomsday or just the run-of-the-mill government intrusion - recommends having an older, manual-transmission vehicle with minimal computer interaction. Very wise of you... *salute
Training is such a concern regarding police. They send our cops to train with the IDF. We should not be surprised that there's an indifference to human life.

My mechanic agrees with you and tells me that "They don't make them with this excellence anymore.

That's a powerful observation, Herschel; I find no fault in it... *salute
