Lithium is not rare in itself, there are billions of tons of it in Earth's oceans (estimated 200+ billion tons) – just that its concentration therein is fairly low and extraction is not economically viable at this time. Even extracting it from the few «good» sources is rather energy-intensive.

I have driven a Tesla extensively, it has many problems. But it’s perfect for a 15 minute city.
