Sometimes I wonder what prompts me to subscribe to certain substacks. This is a big part of it: ‘backward Luddite nutjob’ to ‘paranoid conspiracy theorist.’ Birds of a feather…

A.I. is at the helm of Substack. Controlling everything. The more I seek help lately the more some robot is burying me. You can feel it in your bones. You were right all along Stone. I have long thought about A.I. too and how dangerous it is. Everyone kept saying it will be amazing but in my bones I never felt those people were right. Much like the internet when it first came about. I knew it would be good - but I saw a future where evil would capture it in hidden abundance. What can we do? I think we all know the answer. Homestead :)

Absolutely love this, Deborah, and agree across the board.

Speaking of agreement? I think you are dead-accurate about Substack these days, AI (or, at least AI as they have programmed it to behave) is driving this ship now. They've made it clear they do not give a crap about what any of us think, they are invested in 'the model.'

Which has become, essentially, AI... :-\

Oh yesss! I believe they have sold us down the river to A.I. - especially after reading your latest. It’s here!!!

I was unaware of “Uncle Ted’s” theories. I read his Wikipedia page but am uncertain as to how accurate it is. He went to Harvard, though, and participated in “psychology studies”…that would not be a good thing. Not even going to lie, this AI stuff is all so creepy and scary. I watch so many people literally unable to put their cell phones down, mindlessly chatting away about things they saw on FakeBook. I use “mindlessly” deliberately. And they are nearly apoplectic when I say I do not carry one. The people who developed much of the technology do not permit their children to use it so why would I? Well, thanks for this essay. I am just completely creeped out at this point. Song of the day: Analog Man by Joe Walsh. I simply want to live in an analog world. I hugged the trees at the Broadmoor last week deliberately…did not even care who saw me do it.

It creeps me out too, Elizabeth. I continue to wean myself off more and more tech with each passing day, and while at this point it may be futile? I want to go out of this life knowing - at least in the end - I did what I could, and stood on reasoned principles.

The Kaczynski case was - and is - a unique and complex case. He did some rotten things to innocent people, and we should not forget that, but he was also an extremely brilliant man who lived by his own principles. And he was also WAY ahead of the anti-tech curve, so I have to give him props for that.

And that song? I've been using the phrase, "An analog man in a digital world' for literally years, and had no idea Joe Walsh used it a lyric LOL Just heard it for the first time, good tune.

And you hug them trees, my friend - ain't no nobody's business but yours and the tree's ;-)

Another song of the day, If I Ever Lose My Faith In You-Sting. I feel every single word of this song now. I have had to unlearn every single thing I once believed was factual. Now I just don’t know quite often. I sang this song to my former boss after he told me he bought a fake vaccine card and let everyone else get the jabs. I am beyond being able to work for anyone who does not have the courage to stand now. No matter what. Thus my great appreciation for those who are willing to talk or write about inconvenient truths. I was raised to be pretty fake and worry about “social status” and I just cannot do it now. Thanks for writing truth.

Thank you. Thank you for writing like an actual human being. I stared at the hand-painted ceilings at the Broadmoor, too, in addition to hugging trees that were probably hundreds of years old. I am beyond caring what anyone thinks at this point. “Are you here to stay with us, Ms. Schneider?” No, just to look at the ceilings and hug the trees and soak up some history. Like real HUMAN history which seems to be in the process of being erased. I walked through the corridors and touched the paneling, wondering who else had touched that same paneling, thinking about what their human stories were.

Standing on reasoned principles. Yes, I want to go out of this life knowing the same. I am more like a Timex than a Rolex for having done so. But my conscience is clear now so I hear you. It was not always. I don’t want to be a part of leaving a shit show legacy for future generations, that’s for sure.

Harvard was my client. My uncle is a Harvard graduate as well. It is not exactly what a lot of people think. Given what I saw in psychology labs, I am opting to grant Mr. Kaczynski a bit of grace and not jump to conclusions. Thomas Sowell said, “In every disaster throughout American history, there always seems to be a man from Harvard in the middle of it.” Point taken. I was going to apply to law school there but I no longer believe I could maintain my ethics and perform to expected standards. I want to build new systems, not maintain the old.

Have a lovely weekend, Stone.

Thanks. As a former achievement addict, perhaps I can chalk up points for a unique way to leave a job….a song. It was either Sting or Dirty Work by Steely Dan 😂 I am gardening this weekend which is awesome. Growing food. That’s as much excitement as I can handle.

Feels like an episode of the Twilight Zone. Or maybe Bullwinkle and Rocky - “Simon says……..”. Shows that we’re definitely ahead of their time somehow reading into the future and reading it right. It is scary as hell. Nobody ever thinks of it, but how long before the evil, the low life pond scum take it over…or have they already 🤔 ?

Excellent points, Ken, and to be honest? I think they already have, at least covertly. I know now we are never getting rid of AI, nor its 'masters'... at least not without a massive 'reset.'

How that plays out? I have no clue... :-\

There was this kids movie we saw once called "Home" and it was about how an alien crash landed on Earth and was with this kid trying to fix its craft. There was this part where he has to get a super advanced microchip to get the thing working again.

He gets it and the kid says, wow, why is that thing so powerful, what does it do?

And the alien replies - "It is mostly marketing".

That's how I feel about AI so far. Mostly hype and novelty. I know some day it will run everything but right now I just don't buy it. I spend most of my days in a corporate job and on LinkedIn and it's all over the place. <groans> everyone is talking about it.

But all I see is robots that can't yet imitate humans, glitchy photos with people that smile creepily, and bad writing. When you actually read it, it's crap. You need to edit it.

OK, RANT OVER. Thanks for letting me vent on your comments section bro!

Obviously the nutjobs who aspire to have the world controlled by A/i retards have somehow built this fail-safe system into the programming. As A/i evolves, you will not be able to turn if off unless you create a massive power disruption. But then, who really knows? Not the genius clowns working with A/i as they have no clue as to where it will lead.

Expand full comment
Stone Bryson's avatar

Agreed across the board, and I am convinced said power-disruption would have to be something natural, like an EMP from a solar flare. Because if it were a planned event... the AI would sus it out. They have access to literally everything 'tech'; even our oral conversations are no longer safe, thanks to ever-invasive microphones everywhere.

Well said...
