I am sick and tired of hearing about ‘our democracy.’
The chorus of those pointing out that the United States is not - and has never been - a democracy has been growing louder, a fact for which I am grateful; for many years there was only a tiny group of us screaming this into what felt like a void, but that is now changing.
“A republic, if you can keep it.”
- Benjamin Franklin, 1787, when asked about what form of government the recently-completed Constitution would establish.
I think part of the shift is due to the last three years or so, with the draconian measures taken by ‘democratic’ governments the world over in relation to COVID-19; consider - if you will - where the worst violations of civil liberties have occurred.
Sure, China has engaged in its fair share, but a vast majority of the worst offenders were not dictatorships, nor governments traditionally identified as authoritarian; Australia. Canada. France. Germany. New Zealand. Etcetera.
Democracies… every single one.
But this is not new, folks; going back to the Weimar Republic, modern democracies have been as bad - and, in most cases, worse - than allegedly-authoritarian regimes when it comes to the fundamental rights of the individual.
But how can they be worse?
Because the leaders in a democracy will gaslight you into believing the oppression they are serving is for your own good, that you are helpless without them; by their insidious natures they co-opt the levers of influence (information and culture, banking and academia) to redefine what ‘free’ means… that they may manipulate you into believing you actually ARE ‘free,’ all while simultaneously mashing an invisible boot across your throat.
Indeed… for saving ourselves.
They do not just break your back - they break your spirit, destroying you from within; a majority of dictatorships are (and historically have been) more honest about their intentions, at least, and they do not demand you thank them after they violate you.
For the record, this delusion about ‘democracy’ is not isolated to the left; right-leaning people are fond of referencing ‘dictators’ when gun-control arguments arise, oft-erroneously suggesting that it is primarily authoritarian strongmen who disarm their citizens.
Guess what: There hasn’t been a single ‘democracy’ in existence that did not strip its citizens of their natural rights to keep and bear arms.
Not one.
That includes Canada… and I think we can all agree Justin Trudeau is NO ‘strongman.’
This is all by design, of course, something they admit in moments of hubris…
“Australia, correctly in my view, does not have a Bill of Rights, so our legislatures have more say than America’s over many issues of individual rights, and our courts have less control. Also, we have no constitutional right to bear arms.”
- John Howard, 2013, Former Prime Minister - Australia
And more recently…
“No constitutional right… including my oath, is intended to be absolute.”
- Michelle Lujon Grisham, 2023, Governor of New Mexico
Fortunately for us Americans we do have a Bill Of Rights, and those rights - tyrannical statements notwithstanding - actually are absolute.
Democracy is truly one of the vilest forms of government imaginable, if not THE most vile. After all, why do you think Globalists celebrate it… strive for it?
We, the People of these United States of America, do not live under a democracy; we are a Constitutional Republic, meaning we are a nation of ‘laws’ and not ‘majorities.’
If we can keep it…
As such, know this with confidence: When you hear someone of influence referring to us as a ‘democracy’ ad nauseum they are either willfully ignorant or blatantly lying; either way, they telling you their intentions up-front.
Indeed, they are boldly proclaiming that they intend to sacrifice to achieve their goals, using whatever justification they can manufacture, because ‘sacrifice’ is the NATURE of ‘democracy.’ They will sacrifice individualism, sacrifice prosperity, sacrifice Liberty… sacrifice you, all in the name of ‘the greater good.’
If you are an advocate for Liberty, understand fully that these are your adversaries. They despise everything you represent. They wish to destroy you. They hate you.
Understand it… and never forget it.

But we effectively haven’t been much a “constitutional republic” in several decades, in fact, we’ve been much closer to being a centralized technocratic dictatorship. I agree that we were not set up as, nor were we ever, what I take it that your implying the definition of democracy is. But we did indeed used to be a semi-populist, semi-politically decentralized, semi-economically decentralized, semi-culturally decentralized, and semi scientifically decentralized republic with high imperfect yet still meaningfully democratic governance structures based around our former, and completely different than today’s parties, decentralized and publicly accessible Democratic and Republican parties of old. So while we may not have been a democracy we were still none the less much more democratic
I’ve never in my life seen such brutal attacks on the constitution from office holders sworn to uphold said document, many of whom have law degrees, along with the press, whose sole existence is provided for by the first amendment.
Our constitutional republic is suffering from a thousand cuts, and still hanging on, yet perhaps we are at that “keep it if you can” point in history.
