Technically, they aren't Electric Vehicles at all. They are Battery powered. If they were Electrical, they'd have overhead cables, like a trolley car. You have to charge them, like batteries.
You still have to use a diesel generator, or coal fired power plant to generate the electricity.
Well yeah, Joseph, 'technically' you are 100% correct, but since breaking those specific details down would have ruined the overall flow of the article? I figured I'd use the term by which everyone knows them :-)
I see the same thing increasingly with music and it’s very bizarre. People are telling me they don’t like ‘such and such’ musician any more, because some of his/her character flaws have been exposed, or they’ve spouted forth some (usually right wing) view.
It’s like people these days either can’t separate the art (product) from the person, or they simply expect said musician to share their own values.
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. Anyone who tries to be everything to everyone will usually end up being nobody to no-one.
The nuance of separating the act from the person seems lost on a lot of the world these days
What a wonderful way to put that, Jamie - thank you! The music analogy is a perfect example, too, because it encapsulates the entire political spectrum.
I tutor and babysit a little girl on weekday evenings, whose family has been like my own over the years. Recently, her parents generously gifted me a Tesla Model 3 so I can drive her to school, piano lessons, swimming, and more including keeping it for my personal driving. I must admit, I really enjoy driving it; there’s nothing I dislike about the car except for the challenge of longer trips. The battery only lasts about 250 miles, so taking it more than 100 miles round trip can be tricky. I don’t particularly enjoy spending time at charging stations. However, it’s perfect for local errands.
That said, I have a significant concern: the production of those batteries threatens the very environment that electric vehicles are meant to protect. It’s ironic, but not in a good way, and this is my biggest aversion to these vehicles.
I understand from where you are coming, Charlotte, especially when a Tesla is given as a gift ;-) From what I have heard they are reliable cars (as far as EVs go, anyhow), and a lot of fun to drive on those short journeys. Appreciate your insights, as always - gives me a different perspective.
My issues with EVs in general have always been the things I catalogued in the articles I mentioned above; the unreliability for longer distances (which targets rural travel), the drive to make them the ONLY vehicular options (again targeting rural folks, especially while the remain priced them out of range of most Americans), and the role they play into the 15-minute-city / authoritarian agenda they are pushing... ALONG WITH with the very-real environmental damage you astutely pointed out regarding the mining of lithium. Those are basically why I have the aversions that I do :-)
Those are certainly valid issues and concerns that resonate with me as well. The vehicles are designed for short-distance travel, which makes frequent trips to Los Angeles impractical unless we're willing to spend time at charging stations. While some people manage it, I prefer to avoid that, especially since the charging fees can range from $12 to $18, or even higher depending on the location.
To operate the car, you have two options: you can use the provided key card or your smartphone, whether it’s an iPhone or Android. I assume it works with Android devices too. However, this means you need to keep your phone charged at all times. On the upside, there is an excellent charging station inside the car that helps keep your phone powered. This is a significant advantage because if your phone dies, you certainly don’t want your car to stop working as well.
Personally, I rarely use my iPhone and prefer to rely on the key card. I’m uneasy about integrating my phone with the Tesla, as it feels like I would be sacrificing a measure of privacy by using my phone to start the car. Although I have the setup ready, I don’t use it for that purpose.
What’s particularly unsettling is an experience I had when I parked the car in the garage. My phone notified me with video of people near my vehicle. It showed two individuals walking around and peering into the car. This was in my garage, where no one was around! Definitely a Twilight Zone moment! 😬
I can’t say I’m too impressed with Teslas - the idea was around for a long time, but I’m just not a fan of EVs, especially given all of the government assistance. Now, SpaceX is impressive 😀. I think too many look to people as heroes without considering that not all aspects of their personality or actions are “heroic”. However, I do like to give credit where it’s due, and he’s done some cool stuff, but no one will ever meet all of my standards at once.
This is balanced - dare I say 'nuanced' - comment, Cinday - thank you! I agree across the board, especially about Space X; they are doing some crazy-cool things with that, for which Musk deserves his share of the credit :-)
And to be honest I too am not at all impressed with Teslas, but since I am extremely prejudiced again EVs of any kind? I reckon my opinion of them may not carry much weight LOL
Thanks for your take. Nuance is always needed and vouched for better understanding. It should not be a case of either "love or hate" when it comes to anyone, high profile or regular Joe and Joanna.
Hypocrisy is. Rational isn’t. People—can’t live with em and can’t kill em. 🤷🏻♂️
None of the people perpetuating these acts have anything else of value going on in their lives. Criticizing their ignorant, irrational behavior is like stomping on an ant. It’s pointless. They’ll keep doing ant stuff. Best you can do is keep em outta your kitchen. 🙏
You got that right :-) Although they DO serve one purpose - they give us great examples that we can use to discuss more important matters, like embracing 'nuance' so that maybe we - as a people - can start to heal the various divides between us.
So, you know, silver linings to be found... even in the worst of people and actions LOL
Unfortunately nuance is hard to ascertain for many when dealing with someone that is so polarizing, especially within a society devoid of reason and purpose.
"Devoid of reasons and purpose..." Damned, Terrence, you nailed that one dead-center of the bullseye. I reckon our best weapon is to KEEP embracing nuance, and hope others will come along for the journey by the examples we set :-)
The musk man has his hands in too many anti-human pies for my liking. The fact that he has taken billions in government tax dollars to support his self arrogance is bewildering.
"Look, I appreciate many things Musk has done. Without him purchasing X, and his steps to free-up speech on the platform (while acknowledging to it NOT ‘fully-free’ speech), we would undoubtedly be facing the Globalists’ final march into the ‘Agenda 2030’ darkness. His actions with DOGE (while clearly NOT 100% perfect) have generated a landslide of revelations, causing many who were on-the-fence with the Red Pill v. Blue Pill decision to actually make said-decision.
These things… have been of the good."
When Lone Skum purchased Twitter he promised free speech, but then it became free speech as long as he approved and free REACH was only given with his discretion. Changing the name of the platform to X was annoying and still is. I call it Xitter, pronouncing the X as SH.
I popped into Xitter to ask for my account back. I was refused and told that I had 'broken the law'. However, no example of this allegation transpired so I appealed 3 more times. No joy. Then my son's X account was axed. Presumably they thought that as we share an IP address we were actually one person!
DOGE is a bare-faced cross-reference to the Doge of Venice. A selected Duke-type of position which is temporarily custodian of the Venetian Empire's Rule of Law. It is the greatest clue I have EVER seen confirming that we do indeed still have a Roman Empire ruling this sad sucker of a world.
It seems to me that whether people consider that they have taken a red or blue, purple or black pill they are still completely oblivious of the massive international crime syndicate coup that has taken place right under their noses. When they read where this scenario is headed, they will be swallowing tranx by the dozen.

Well said! :-)
Nuance, unfortunately, seems to be fading fast from the toolbox of humanity.
Mouthful of truth, Robert - maybe we can restock that box :-)

Real journalism… now wouldn’t THAT be something wonderful to see in 2025? :-\

Thank YOU, Marinarena, for the insightful and gracious comment. Appreciate it!

It seems Musk's greatest «crime» in the eyes of the attackers is his willingness to reconsider decisions and occasionally even correct mistakes.
I'm not sure if they just want illusory stability in an increasingly chaotic world, or if it's all about protecting a certain big mistake.
Well said , thank you
No, thank YOU, Sarah - appreciate the gracious comment.

I read nothing I disagree with. Well said sir.
Very kind of you - thank you!
If only Musk would buy Planned Parenthood .
That has potential, Keith... hmmmm.
"Reasond observation"... exactly...I also like "healthy skepticism"... in high doses...peace...
"Healthy skepticism" works for me as well, Kary :-)
Gotta contend strongly with this paragraph:
"Look, I appreciate many things Musk has done. We ARE facing the Globalists' final march into Agenda 2030 - surely you have noticed? Nothing is stopping the UN + WEF in their partnership towards totalitarian world from which nobody escapes! https://francesleader.substack.com/p/agenda-2030-no-escape-no-objections

Sorry to burst your bubble, Stone. Someone had to do it.
Appreciate your thoughts, Frances - thanks for sharing them :-)
