Well researched and well said. I'm ever optimistic that the internet will be the downfall of dictatorships. As more young people are engaged on the internet, the less appealing the dictatorships become. Really, how many people are lined up at the borders of Russia, Iran, China and North Korea hoping for entry and potential citizenship?

All China has to do is wait. They play the long game. They're short on capital now, but what's the rush? They'll wait for the right circumstances.

Excellent analysis on an important issue that's under-reported on in the press!

Thanks so much, Kyle - appreciate that. One of the things I strive to do here is find relevant stories that are being underreported (or, deliberately ignored), and flesh them out.

Hence... my gratitude for your comment :-) Welcome to The Stone Age...

Knowing next to nothing about it, I have been wondering if Beijing makes their move before Trump is re-elected? Biden is weak, shuffling around like he needs a walker, the Pentagon can't deal even with the Houthi's, the Ukraine war is looking like Russia's to take, Gen Austin is MIA, seems like if not now it might be awhile yet. But China is better at playing the long game.

Well said, trouble is also that China's got an impending demographic and debt crisis bomb about to rock their country, so the window to seize Taiwan may well be closing as far as they are concerned.

A very clear account of the situation as it has been and further developed during decades. It’s only in hindsight that one can predict the future, but what is surfacing is something to keep in mind... the old ‘what if.. ?‘. Be prepared.

How about we leave Taiwan alone and mind our business? Why do we always have to start shit with other countries (Russia, the entire Middle East, and now China)? Taiwan is China. Most Taiwanese people think of themselves as Chinese. The US doesn’t actually give a shit about the Taiwanese (but they’ll of course say we need to help bring them “democracy.”) In fact, I’m betting they end up destroying their country because well, that’s what we do. They just want to use them. We are only “protecting” them for selfish reasons. China is not our enemy; Russia is not our enemy; Iran is not our enemy. Our enemy lies within. It is us. WE’RE the terrorists.

Taiwan should be what the Taiwanese decide it to be. Right now, it seems that they strongly disagree with you.

Another great take. I agree that this is a very uncertain time for that side of the globe but I have to admire the Taiwanese president for sticking to her guns, so to speak.
