Tha thank you for this article, I could not agree with you more. One just has to listen to the UK Prime Minister Keir Stammer to to hear that this is going on at an incredible scale. The doublespeak he uses the twisting of words and meaning to suit an agenda is literally everything that comes out of his mouth. The UK, I believe are in serious trouble with him as Prime Minister, heck they ARE in trouble with him as Prime Minister. I also feel if the US elect Kamala Harris it will also fall to the same fate. Mind your words, never a truer statement spoken.

An excellent, real-word example Lauren - I am watching things unfold on your side of the pond, and cannot help but wonder what the blazes is going on. I know plenty of Brits oft do the same thing about things here in America, but this is the first time in a while things have looked so dire in the UK.

Always keeping the Patriots there in my thoughts and good vibes...

I love that you wrote this. I was walking my friend’s dog just prior to reading this, thinking the EXACT same things. I am and have pretty much always been on the quiet side. I need to think before I speak….even more so because I was raised by people who did not think before they spoke and it was damaging. I read The Hidden Messages In Water and it made a lot of sense. I often think many people speak a lot of words that might not truly be necessary, especially on social media, which I am not a part of aside of a few Substack writers. The older I get, the more I appreciate the value of silence. This was a really great missive. Thank you, sir.

So well put, Elizabeth. I have been a bit 'mouthy' (for lack of better word) in the past, and occasionally paid a price for it. I do my best to 'mind my words' these days, especially online (you should see the rewrites and edits this very article went through LOL), and try to speak only when I have something of value to add.

I don't always succeed at this... but at least I know the challenges I have ;-)

Thanks so much for the great comment, and the kind words - happy you enjoy this one :-)

Every revision, every edit, every bit of thought in this essay was well worth it. So well worth it, in fact, that I am printing a copy and placing it in my journal to keep for posterity as you managed to sum up our collective experience extraordinarily well. I understand the “mouthy” bit…I might not speak a lot but when I do, I like to make it count…and I like to fight the powers that should not be so I am known in those circles as being “mouthy” and have paid a dear price. The words in your essay were indeed words that matter…greatly. Good job.

So, you and Elizabeth Nickson are in my journal to commemorate this very crazy time in our history. Both of you are exceptional writers.

When you read Marcuse and find yourself reading a paragraph for the third time, it’s a sign it’s word salad and cognitive dissonance sandwich. And the weak minded idiots who pretended that A is not A, it’s more advanced to construct so Hegelian Mousetrap because Truth is ever unfolding should be scoffed at and given deep wedgies.

Something that was true - I was asleep - can become untrue - I am now awake.

But Truth remains fixed.

Indeed. Feeling it too. Add to that the manner in which words are delivered- I watched Biden speaking yesterday and realized just how much I enjoyed NOT having to hear him for the last few weeks. There is always a terse anger coming through those gritted teeth, a sort of lecturing/admonishment that has been as off-putting as the lies that pour forth in his oratory.

Others have their own style of condescension, aimed at anyone not buying into the totality of their ideology. Flavoring euphemisms with self-righteous indignation and condescension make for a toxic political environment, through which we are currently living.

Oof. The twisting of words is insidious. I am going through a course with one of my kids that traces the roots and meanings of words to Greek and Latin; I hope it will help my kiddo stay grounded and logical in this war of words. Great article, thank you.

First agreement to make with yourself is to be impeccable with your word. One of my favorite books is The Four Agreements.

The Word is God. It's the most powerful force we possess.

John 1:1-2 KJV: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.”

Here, “the Word” (Greek: Logos) is identified as a divine entity, coexisting with God from the beginning of creation. This passage emphasizes the Word’s divinity, stating that it was God.

An excellent observation, good sir - I too have read the The Four Agreements, and while it was not on my 'conscious' mind whilst writing this... I'm sure it was rolling around deep in the subconscious somewhere ;-)

100% agree and notice it all the time now. We are literally being cut adrift from all that is real, from truth. Nothing means anything etc, etc. It’s a campaign and it seems to be working. On another note, the use of AI for audio books etc is also skewing language and I notice -no offence intended -when listening to some smart folks from US some strange pronunciation, eg. Renown, is re-noun but being used as ren-own, banal, is ban-nal being used as b-anal (that one did make me laugh tho)

LOL No offense taken... because what you say is true ;-) We could go all day on pronunciations - even here in the States, we have people whose accents and inflections are so different I ask myself, "Are they even speaking English?" ;-)

Oh the more serious side, thanks so much for your comment. I agree 100%, it IS a 'campaign' (I really like that word in this context, BTW), and they are relentlessly pursuing it :-|

And in the various modern iterations of Marxist/communist sales lingo, they have managed to commandeer the term “progressive” to flatter themselves. Progressive as in Stalin? Mao? Genghis Khan? Let’s stop calling this tyranny progressive. It’s progressive like inoperable stage 4 brain cancer is progressive.

Words are like bullets they cant be recalled all the sorries or apologies in the world can never take them away because they came from you your person more powerful than written word or some front man speaking on your behalf.

Listen with more than your ears, adding heart and depth of word meaning. Words have texture to them, vibrating when a context is presented. It amazes me how fast the gaslit phrase "conspiracy theory" became a very effective tool. Once labeled, few look any deeper into a subject. Apples are round, bite one side and the other side still looks whole. Look into all sides.

Words have meanings until some silly government tries to change what they mean.

Do you have a solution to the problem so eloquently defined above?

That's a damned good question, Dave. I usually include a potential 'solution' when I go on these sorts of rants, but this one - aside from the self-admonition to 'mind my words' - escapes me.

At least for the moment, anyhow; it's something I will continue to contemplate... ;-)

Thanks you for the kind comment, BTW - appreciate it *salute
