Written In Stone [Special Edition]
One Time Only: The Exclusive Weekly Newsletter For Paid Members Is Open For Everyone!
Hello everyone, and welcome to a special edition of Written In Stone. Normally sent every week between Tuesday and Thursday, this is the exclusive newsletter for paid Members… except for today! Indeed, for the first time ever I am posting this as a public post, so that free subscribers can get a taste of what paid Members see every week.
Each of these drops includes a wide variety of segments, oft featuring site updates, news-bites, and personal musings, along with text edited out of public articles, my own (very humble) snapshots, or whatever else is striking my fancy at the moment of publication.
While a VAST majority of my work here is available for free, this is where I give something extra back to those paid Members every week. I hope you enjoy it, and - if not already, and only if you are able - I also hope you will consider becoming paid member.
Especially since the current price is heavily discounted off the monthly rate…
And even if cannot or do not wish to? It’s all good - I am just grateful to have any audience at all! As such, I am happy you are here, and hope you enjoy this special edition.
With all that said, let’s get to it…
Livin’ la Vida Local
The response to last Saturday night’s “Living Local” article was incredible, yet also overwhelming. I’m not talking so much about the numbers (through they were good), but the amazing responses in the comments; I tried my best, but I simply could not get to answering all of them. To be honest, I could probably write an entire new article just based on those comments, and it would stand on its own.
I have said this before, and will keep saying it: I think I have the best subscriber-base on Substack, and this post proved it to me once again. Thank you all for being here, and for being… well, you…
200
Oh, and speaking of the ‘you?’ Because of you, this is the 200th post on The Stone Age! Back when I fully committed to this venture in November of last year, I had maybe 70-80 posts over a period of a year-and a half; the rest have come since then, which means it has definitely been a busy nine months.
These would not have come about without your encouragement and support - the Memberships and subscriptions, the likes and restacks and shares - so, once again…
Thank you…
Behind the Scenes
Here are a few quick bullet-points on what is coming…
- If things continue to progress as they are, the first installment of the ‘Icons’ series should be ready in about two weeks; as I have mentioned previously, it is turning into much more of a challenge than I had anticipated, but we are getting much closer
- I have started the piece on AI imagery we discussed previously; I hope to have completed and ready to post by the end of the week
- Thanks to the comments on the last Written In Stone, I am moving forward with an article on agoraphobia; as I mentioned to
- A new ‘Page’ should be posted this week
Stay tuned for more updates…
News-Bite
Which artificial sweetener is the safest choice?
NBC News
“Scientists say that may be the wrong question.” Well, it’s about time they started saying that…
Some experts say that instead of trying to pinpoint the safest nonsugar [sic] sweetener, better studies need to determine whether there’s a benefit to swapping out sugar in the first place.
Now, these ‘scientists’ would likely claim that High-Fructose Corn Syrup [HFCS] is a ‘natural’ sugar, but we do not take that position here at The Stone Age. In fact, I firmly believe our recent obesity epidemic, along with the related health issues, are directly tied to the proliferation of HFCS (they use it as a preservative in almost EVERY ‘processed’ food item, after all), and thus the product is no better than any of the lab-created Franken-Sweeteners on the market.
I do not want ANY of them in my life, HFCS or otherwise.
As to the ‘pure cane’ variety? I know that every type of those sugars is refined in some capacity, and that there are studies which claim it is a deadly product. As such, many of you are 100% anti-ANY sugar - I get that, and I respect it.
However, from my perspective? Life is just too short - too challenging - without adding at least a little ‘sweetness’ to it. Since cane sugar IS ‘natural,’ I figure a little sprinkled on my cereal, a little in my coffee, and a whole vat-load dumped into my iced tea (it IS called, ‘sweet tea,’ after all) cannot hurt all that much.
As the old saw goes, ‘everything in moderation’ (tea notwithstanding), so even if the naysayers are right about it being deadly? I am honestly willing to sacrifice a few months off the end of my life to enjoy the occasional ‘sweetening’ of living that life in the moment.
So being that sweetness is natural…
Memetic Thoughts
I mean, with the advent of the ‘selfie?’ I’m just saying…

From the Substack ‘Notes’
Okay, I got some serious pushback from this one…
Judging by the comments, I think many misunderstood my intent; that noted, allow me to clarify for the curious.
I was NOT asserting that we should ‘trust’ Paul Begala, nor was I casting any judgments on what President Trump may or may not do. I am still uncertain about J.D. Vance (he DOES have some questionable background noise), but there is NO uncertainty when it comes to my thoughts on Nikki Haley; I am no fan, and anyone who has been around here for even a little bit already KNOWS it.
[See, this is why I try to avoid discussing national, ‘presidential’ politics; as
reminded me in his recent, ever-astute post, I really need to get away from it again… and stay grounded in what REALLY matters.]My primary reason for this post was to let folks know that the Propaganda Machine™ is going into overdrive; THEY are the ones, for whatever reason, who are not 100% happy with the Vance pick, and are attempting to stir up a narrative to force a change. This tells me that the Globalists - and their parasites in the media - really really want Haley in that position.
Like, desperately want her there… and you do not have to be a ‘conspiracy theorist’ to ascertain why. As such, know - with absolute confidence - that no matter how much you already mistrust Haley?
It is not nearly enough…
Sky-Snap
The skies have reverted to their usual mid-summer stubbornness when it comes to offering decent visuals to be captured, thus I have dipped into the vault…
Snapped this one in May, 2017; was using a different camera-phone back then, but still? I think it worked fairly well…
And that is a wrap on this free edition of Written In Stone. As always, thank you for reading - your support is greatly valued.
Until later…

You are so right, Stone. Everything is laced these days with (nonsugar) sugar, but I totally get it that you want to have a moderate dose on some foods by choice. And even if it does steal some months of life, you will at least have enjoyed it ☺️
Having said that, I hope I’ll be able to enjoy your writings for a very long time to come 🙂
Thank you for the shout out!
You are much better off eliminating sugar and corn from your diet. And pretty much everything in the grocery store that’s prepackaged is spiked with sugar, and or corn or too much salt. Thank you for bringing this to light @Stone
